Sammy Gibbs - Lead Veterinarian - Carlsbad

Dr. Sammy Gibbs grew up in Southern California, and since then has lived all throughout the state for school and work.

Dr. Gibbs earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he graduated cum laude in 2017. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis in 2021. He found a passion for general practice and client communication during his time in Davis, earning the 2021 AAHA award for Proficiency in Primary Care. He also discovered a love of teaching and mentoring during his time at Davis, working as a peer tutor for the class of '22.

After graduation, Dr. Gibbs worked at a 24 hour walk-in clinic in Northern California under the mentorship of Dr. Larry Correia, where he honed his skills in emergency medicine, ultrasound, and soft tissue surgery. His time in emergency medicine taught him the importance of preventative care. After discovering that they were expecting a baby boy, Dr. Gibbs and his wife decided to return to southern California to be closer to family.

Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Gibbs enjoys staying active through outdoor activities such as surfing, snowboarding, and backpacking, and values time spent with his family and pets—three dogs, Gibson, Mango, and Kiwi, and a cat named Squirtle Marie.
